2017-2018 Welcome Letter

Hello Fellow Homeschool Families!

Registration and orientation day will be Wednesday, August 30th, at the Community Evangelical Free Church fellowship hall in Platteville. The registration will be 9:30 to 10:30, and a potluck at 11:45. Registration will finish by 10:30 am and the orientation meeting will begin. All families participating in classes this school year are asked to attend the orientation meeting. We will need child care during this time. Any volunteers to watch children at this time, please let me know. The first part of the orientation meeting will be for the students, parent information to follow. After the student portion, if weather permits, students ages 3 and up may play outside at the playground with adequate supervision (our need for volunteers). Board members please be at the church by 9:00 for set-up. Everyone will be responsible for clean up and supervising children. Students are not to roam the building, or be unattended at any time.
Christine Alt will be offering her photography service, for homeschool pictures at a cost of $15/student. Please look for more details on this soon.
This year, our theme will be love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind,  and to show love toward others. During the opening time, Shannon Badger will give a short devotional on how we can love the Lord with all our heart. We will also be stressing being mannerly. Having manners toward others shows others that we can be loving and kind.  It’s also very important because we are a light for Jesus, and when we have manners, we can share the love of Jesus. We will have a manners curriculum we will be following, and all students will be in manners class.
Classes will be on Wednesday mornings. The doors will open at 8:30 to give time for preparation. Opening time will be in the youth room and will begin on time at 9:00 and go till 9:15 (if more time is needed for opening time, we may need to start earlier). Please arrive before it starts, so that you have enough time to get settled in for the day. It’s very important that everyone attends the opening time before classes begin. Not only is this time for Scripture reading, but for announcements and information.
There will be three morning class times: first hour 9:15 to 10:10, second hour 10:15 to 11:10, third hour 11:15 to 12:10. On potluck days, third hour will end early at 12:00 in order to prepare for potluck.  There will be room for students to use as a study room. Please do not use the church foyer or hang out in the church foyer.
Two adults are needed for every class. Parents might have to be assigned to help in classes.Teachers are still needed for all, but one of the Manners Matter classes. If there are not any volunteers to teach these, parents will be assigned to take a turn to teach the manners classes.

Teachers and classes are needed for the second semester as well.

Fees:
  • The yearly membership fee is $30 per family.
  • The membership year is from August 1 to July 31.
  • The fees for the co-op classes are as follows:
    • Member fee is $10 per family per semester, plus additional fund raising.  The fundraising needs to cover at least $25 per semester per family. If a member does not wish to participate in fundraising, the member may pay the additional amount in instead of fundraising.
    • Non-member fee is $50 per semester per family.
    • There may be an added class supply fee, which the teacher decides. Parents are responsible for any added book fees.
    • Payment is due by the second week of classes.  Payment would be appreciated on registration day.
    • There will be a fee to participate in the spring drama.
    • Fees are due upon registration or by the second week of classes.
Note: There is a 2-week trial period in which participants may drop out of the co-op classes and receive a full refund.
Those who need financial assistance please talk with a board member. The board will decide on a case-by-case basis to fulfill a request. CHEF does not want the fees to be a burden to families.
Also, families will be assigned turns for morning set-up, and after class clean-up.  You are responsible for getting a replacement if you cannot help the day you are assigned. Parents will also be assigned for youth supervision after the youth are done eating. Students may play outside weather permitting, lower level playground (worship center otherwise) until 1:15. We would like the church cleaned up and empty by 1:30 pm.
